Research Methodology and Academic Writing for PhD students
November 14-15, 2025 (Fri-Sat.)
About the Speaker
Professor Jean-François Hennart is a Fellow of the Academy of International Business (AIB) and the European International Business Academy (EIBA), and is one of the most important and contemporary scholars in the development of foreign direct investment (FDI) theory over the past half-century.
Professor Hennart's research encompasses strategic issues, including multinational enterprises (MNEs), foreign market entry modes, and joint ventures. He pioneered the application of transaction cost theory from economics to the field of international business research. His early research focused on the foreign entry decisions of large corporations, such as the Japanese investments in the United States in the last century, which shares many similarities with the current situation facing Taiwan's technology-intensive manufacturing industries.
He served for many years as co-chair of the European International Business Academy (EIBA) Doctoral Tutorial, nurturing countless junior scholars. After nearly half a century of dedication to international business strategy research, Professor Hennart remains a leading scholar in the field of international business studies today, with over 26,000 citations on Google Scholar.
He serves as consulting editor at the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS) and on the editorial boards of multiple top-tier business research journals. His recent research has also expanded to topics such as MNEs from emerging markets, born-globals, the internationalization of family firms, and international trade data.
